The Body and Mind Kent Crusaders will be hoping to get off to a good start with their first official game of the new season this Saturday. Crusaders face Sevenoaks Suns in the first round of the National Cup, which will see the only two men’s national league teams in Kent going head to head.

Last year in this competition Crusaders made it to the second round, where they were knocked out by a strong Worthing Thunder side that have won back-to-back division 1 titles. A win in the Sevenoaks game would set up a rematch with Worthing in the 3rd round due to Solent dropping out of the 2nd round game.

Steve Findley said this about the upcoming game “We need to carry the positives from the weekend (Crusaders Cup) into Saturday, Sevenoaks are new to national league basketball but not to be taken for granted, we need a more consistent effort level and the rest will follow”

Sevenoaks will play in National League Division 4 and due to them being a new entry to the national league could cause Crusaders a few problems.

Crusaders head coach Mads Olsen commented, “In preseason we have looked very good at times, but at times we haven’t shown the effort needed to win games at any level. We need to bring our best effort to win against Sevenoaks, who will surely do their best to upset the in-county rivals”.

Olsen can name a near full strength side for this game with only James Harris unavailable for the match. He hopes to have Robbie Parker’s international clearance through in time for the game.

The game will take place at the Body and Mind leisure centre this Saturday, with tip off at 7:30pm.

Before the game there will be an U18 national league match between Folkestone Saints and London Capitals. The Folkestone U18 side will feature some of the Crusaders academy players as well as Crusaders guard Rob Dagger.
