Crusaders Under 14’s played their first home game at their new venue in Medway Park against Spelthorne Atoms on Saturday 6th February 2010.

Crusaders started the game very well at the offensive end by putting up 23 points in the first quarter. However on the defensive end of the court they were in foul trouble very early on with 4 fouls in the first two minutes of the game. Crusaders overcame their early wobbles in defence and finished the first quarter 23-4 up.

Coach Matt Fenton continued to give every player court time and each player gave a good account of themselves. Crusaders scored 15 baskets in the second quarter and limited Spelthorne to just 5 in return. The half ended Crusaders up 53-21.

The third quarter saw Crusaders back to their defensive best limiting Spelthorne to just 2 baskets whilst putting in 7 to finish the quarter 70-27 up.

The best quarter came at the end for Crusaders, Joey Barra scored almost half of his total in the last quarter and after 9 attempts, Crusaders got to 100 points in the last minute of the game courtesy of Kyle Vincett. The Game ended Crusaders 100, Spelthorne Atoms 40.

Coach Fenton said “I’m very happy with today’s performance and pleased that our momentum has continued on into our new venue. At both ends of the court we were much more aggressive while still showing intelligence. Our final signing of the season, Edan Backhouse, played his first minutes of the season and fellow year 8 Mitchell Rae also got valuable minutes under his belt. Max Carpenter had his best game of the season and his hard work and dedication in training appears to have paid off.”

Coach Fenton went on to say “I think Atoms will give us a much tougher test when we play them in a month’s time as they will have some of their more experienced players back.”

Coach Matt Fenton’s MVP for this game was Max Carpenter.

Coach Fenton finally added “Also a massive well done to Liam Carpenter who has been named in the U15 England development Squad.”

Crusaders have now won all of their 9 league games to date. They have some tough games to come in the next few weeks so will need to keep up this good form.
