Tough Saturday Night For NBL4 Men

The Kent Crusaders II fell to undefeated league leaders BC Medelynas 108-66 on Saturday night.

Crusaders were unable to get stops against a talented and balanced BC Medelynas team who had 7 different players finish with at least 9 points.

“Today was tough,” said Crusaders head coach Jesse Savant. “At times we were really able to compete with them and had some real good stretches offensively. However we never were able to really slow Medelynas down and they made us pay for it.”

The game started out as a shootout with both teams scoring freely in the opening quarter. Jonathan Brown and Tunde Oyerinde led the way for Crusaders in the opening quarter but a late 8-2 run from Medelynas gave them a 28-20 lead after the first.

The wheels fell off in the second quarter as Medelynas forced Kent into turnovers and continued to score at will. 9-0, 8-0 and 7-0 runs gave them a commanding 57-30 lead at the half.

Crusaders came out with renewed focus in the third quarter, led by Brown scoring in transition and hitting 3s on his way to 14 points in the quarter. However every time Crusaders made a run, Medelynas would answer with a key basket as they continued to rack up baskets. Entering the final quarter, the lead was 84-56.

The fourth quarter was a repeat of the second with Crusaders offence drying up while Medelynas continued to score freely as both teams rotated liberally.

Brown had a game high 25 points, with Billy Beddow adding 11, Oyerinde 9 and Daniel Beard 8.

Kent return to action next week when they host Chelmsford Lions.
