“During my time at the Academy I was able to understand where I was as a player and what I needed to do to get to the next level. I developed my Basketball skills and knowledge which prepared me for my future.” – Sam Lane ‘Castanea Basket – Messina, Italy – Serie C 2019-20’
The Basketball Academy provides a professional, structured programme of coaching, strength and conditioning, sport science and video analysis to allow players to develop at an elite level. There is a heavy emphasis on skill development and teaching players how to read the game. Over two years we aim to teach our athletes how to play and understand a variety of systems that will allow them to succeed wherever they go after the Academy—whether that is Europe, America or the UK.
The weekly programme provides a variety of activities, balanced with the players’ academic commitments. Players will have training sessions every day, with up to 3 sessions some days. Additionally there will be 3 opportunities to gain coaching and officiating qualifications. A typical week includes:
- 3 Academy training sessions
- 2 National League training session
- 2 strength and conditioning sessions
- 1 classroom/video session
- 4 additional skill sessions
- 1-2 Academy games
- 1-2 U18/Men’s National League games
